Lyrics

Aunt Ida had a patchwork quilt
It lay upon her bed
It was the brightest spot of color in the room
With a starburst in the middle
Red diamonds on the side
It helped to keep away the winter gloom.

CHORUS:
She made it from old curtains and pajamas
The ones with all the little cars and trains
She made it from her husband’s worn-out work shirts
Carefully cutting ‘round the stubborn stains

She made it in the quiet hours
She made it from her heart
From scraps of daily living
She made a work of art.

(INSTRUMENTAL TURN-AROUND)

Aunt Ida kept an album
On a table by the bed
Old black-and-white photos, fading fast
And there was cousin Eddie in his little train pajamas
And Uncle Harry grilling up a bass

CHORUS:
Now the kids have all gone--across the country
And Harry is gone to higher ground
But the memories come back to life in color
In the quilt of Ida’s lost and found.

BRIDGE:
Through the eye of a needle
She saw a grand design
And with thread of her own choosing
She took a stich in time

Aunt Ida had a patchwork quilt
It lay upon her bed
It was the brightest spot of color in the room
She made it in the quiet hours
She made it from her heart
From scraps of daily living, she made a work of art.

A work of art.
